Travel Information

Malaga Airport is located approximately 15 km east from the centre of Malaga. The airport is an international airport and the third most visited in Spain. Domestically the airport connects Malaga to Madrid and Barcelona. For other destinations within Spain it is often necessary to change in Madrid.

From the airport to the centre of Malaga you have different transfer options:

By taxi: The local taxi service is monitored by the authorities and is a popular means of transport even for the locals. You avoid parking problems by taking a taxi, but remember that during rush hour the traffic gets a little slow and there may even be a shortage of taxis. A taxi can take you from the airport to the centre of Malaga in around 20 minutes for approximately 20-30 Euros.

By train: It takes approximately 30 minutes to get to the centre of Malaga by train which leaves every half hour between 7.00 am and 12.00 pm and costs about 3 Euros. The train station Maria Zambrano is located on Explanada de la Estacion in Malaga city centre. From the central train station the national trains connect Malaga to the rest of the Andalusian capitals as well as Madrid and a few other destinations. The local trains connect Malaga with Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Malaga Airport.

By bus: You can take the airport bus (number 19) to Malaga. The bus leaves the airport approximately every 30 minutes until 11.00 pm. A ten-trip book of tickets for the bus (bonobus) costs about 4,50 Euros and can be purchased at the tobacco shops (estancos). The central bus station is located on Paseo de los Tilos in the centre of Malaga. From the central bus station in Malaga it is possible to find connections to all the provinces of Spain as well as to some international destinations. Taking a bus in Spain is normally the cheapest alternative when you wish to travel within the country. It is the only public transport into the smaller surrounding villages.

You will find bus itineraries at www.emtsam.es (English and Spanish).

For more information call (+ 34) 952 350 061.

By car: This is generally an easy way to get around, although you may encounter delays at rush hour (early morning from 7 am to 10 am approximately and around 8 pm). It is recommended to leave the car in a supervised car park. Car rental is fairly cheap in Spain, particularly due to the intense competition between the many companies. There are both international and national car rental companies, but generally Spanish companies offer cheaper rates.
